Law Firms
CCN develops and launches legal websites. Through an affiliated law firm, we refer clients to attorneys around the country and then receive an introduction fee from these attorneys. Basically, we do lead generation for attorneys. We find prospective clients and determine if they have a good case.
The CCN Process
Although every case is different, the process is typically as follows:
- An inquiry comes in from a prospective client. They either call us or fill out a web form.
- After the phone call, there are three possibilities:
- The client does not have a viable case.
- The client might have a viable case and they are turned over to our referring attorney, who then further screens the case.
- Sometimes it is so clear that the case is such a good one that, on behalf of the referring attorney, a referring attorney would be contacted.
- If we move forward, the client is introduced to the receiving attorney we have selected for him or her.
- We stay involved in the process until the client signs an engagement agreement with the receiving attorney.
Benefits of the CCN Process
- All of our leads come in through websites.
- We focus on mass torts.
- We have a high caliber of intake personnel. Before we send a case to an attorney, a one or two page write-up will be prepared.
- We are not limited at all in referring a case, so we will refer a case to the most appropriate attorney (unless, of course, that attorney is not willing to pay us a referral fee).
- We have a partnership mentality.
- We provide significant advice to our affiliated websites.
- We have some of the best software developers in the world.
Receiving Law Firm Characteristics
- Comprised of good, experienced, highly competent trial lawyers who have substantial experience in plaintiff contingency cases.
- At a minimum, the managing partner should have at least 10 years of experience. In almost all cases, he or she will have a minimum of 15 or 20 years of experience.
- They are appropriate for the kind of case being referred. Some firms are good at, and are willing to handle, $10,000 or $25,000 cases. That’s fine, if we have such a case, we will refer it to them. That kind of firm is probably not well suited to handle a $1 million product liability case. At the same time, a firm capable of litigating a $1 million product liability case is most likely not going to be interested in handling a $25,000 case.
- Ideally the firm should have a minimum of 5 attorneys, 3 or more of which are partners, ideally equity partners rather than income partners. As well as an appropriate level of non-attorney staffing – receptionist, secretaries, paralegals, etc.
- They respond very quickly to leads we send them and have a quick decision making process.
- There should be no ethical complaints against any of the attorneys that were upheld by the state bar association.
- During business hours, they have people who answer the telephone, as opposed to voice mail, and have a good system for handling inquiries after hours.
- They must have adequate professional responsibility insurance.
Benefits of Becoming a Strategic Law Partner Firm
Initially CCN owns any lead it receives. Should the lead develop into a case, we have the opportunity to refer it to the law firm of our choice. Strategic partner law firms will see leads when they first come in, so one substantial advantage for a strategic partner law firm is the right to choose the cases they want, or to “cherry pick” the incoming leads. Thus, our systems allow a referring law firm to see a large number of cases compared to the few that are passed on to receiving law firms. In this way, a strategic partner law firm has an excellent opportunity to keep the best cases for itself.
To date, CCN has formed a strategic partnership with one of the top and most creative law firms in the country, Oshman & Mirisola. O&M is one of the leading plaintiff contingency firms in New York City. The firm handles individual cases in the New York City and mass tort cases nationally. We are always interested in forging additional strategic partnerships with other top plaintiff contingency firms.
Strategic Partner Law Firm Characteristics
In addition to the law firm characteristics, we desire the additional from strategic partner law firms:
- Knowledge of personal injury and tort cases is essential.
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, as they will need to persuade a client to use us as well as persuading attorneys across the country to accept our cases.
- Detail oriented and excellent computer skills.
- Highly available and easy to reach. It is essential that the person or firm be unusually responsive and available.
How to Become a CCN Strategic Partner Law Firm or a Receiving Law Firm
The CCN approach is different from most that you will find on the Internet. If you are a law firm that handles plaintiff contingency cases and you would like us to refer cases to you, or if you are a plaintiff contingency law firm that has an usually broad range of view, and if you are capable of thinking outside the box and you handle or would like to handle significant mass tort cases, please contact our CEO, James Mitchell, at (310) 862-2355 or via e-mail at jmitchell@counselconnectnetwork.com.
